Eric McClellan is a dad, an award-winning art director and creative director, and a noted sneaker enthusiast living and working in Detroit. For the past ten years he has been busy leading 100+ agency creatives and an army of freelancers while making advertising, content, experiences, a few TV shows, a feature length film, and even a race car or two while working on Ford and Lincoln at GTB (formerly Team Detroit). Before that he was doing the same thing at Deutsch, BBDO, TBWA\Chiat\Day, and McCannSF for IKEA, Pepsi, AOL, Absolut, Microsoft, and Infiniti.
Recently, as Executive Creative Director, he led the creation of both “Life’s First Evers”, which introduced the first ever EcoSport, Ford’s smallest SUV, and “We The People”, the re-launch of the Expedition, their largest. Created for wildly different audiences, both campaigns kicked off simultaneously during the 2018 Winter Olympics. I’m just going to say right here that was a hell of a lot of work but it paid off as both launches have been crazily successful. In the lead up to the EcoSport introduction, he worked closely with Marvel Studios Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol. 2 to create the integrated pre-launch of the EcoSport which went live on Marvel.com.
Prior to that he led the teams that introduced “Life Is A Sport. We Are The Utility”, the Escape launch campaign which went live on Snapchat, Twitter, and NBC during the 2016 Rio Olympics. The launch demanded close coordination between four different production companies as well as the creative teams of both social platforms.
Before re-introducing the world to Ford SUVs, Eric was Executive Creative Director of Brand Content and Entertainment, a hybrid creative/media group within the agency. This became a proving ground for Eric’s ability to work with studios, networks and creative talent outside the traditional agency universe to create content that added new chapters to Ford storytelling. He was a successful collaborator with social influencers and celebrity creators on Explorers Live, the first-ever vehicle launch on Facebook; The Fiesta Movement; Escape Routes, NBC’s first primetime social-reality series; and Octane Academy, NBC’s racing competition reality series. He took creative lead on in-show and social content for series such as FOX’s Gotham and American Idol along with co-branded content with GoPro, Pitchfork, Xbox, ESPN, Hot Wheels, and X Games. He also helped create The Return, the Amazon documentary feature chronicling the Ford GT's long dreamt of return to LeMans.
Eric’s work consistently combines compelling product stories with creative honors from Cannes, CA Annual, The One Show, ADC, The Emmy’s, and AICP.
